SMPS Hawaii holds an event each month alternating between Lunch programs and casual Lunch+Learns. Our Lunch Programs are held at the Plaza Club and educational Lunch+Learns (bring your own lunch) are held at AIA Honolulu. We offer AIA Continuing Education credits for many of our events.

Retail Round-Up: Get the Latest Trends and Tips for Marketing to This Dynamic Sector

We have assembled a dynamic panel of local experts from the development, leasing, and design industries who will share their stance on the current condition and future activity of Hawai‘i’s retail market. Our panelists will discuss trends and upcoming developments, as well as provide attendees with tips and tricks on how to effectively market A/E/C services to retail clients.


Our panelists include:

Sharon Gi, Kamehameha Schools. Sharon Gi is the Senior Planning & Development Manager for Kamehameha Schools and manages development projects from financial feasibility and due diligence to design, entitlements, and execution. She is currently the project lead for the new retail development, Ku‘ono Marketplace at Kahala and previously oversaw the apartment renovation project, Kolo Village Phase II, in Mo‘ili‘ili. Prior to joining Kamehameha Schools, Sharon worked for the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles (CRA/LA) where she was responsible for management and implementation of projects in the Bunker Hill, Little Tokyo, and Central Industrial Redevelopment Project Areas. Sharon earned her Master of Real Estate Development degree from the University of Southern California and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies and Urban Studies from Harvard University.


Michael Hamasu, Colliers International. Michael is the Director of Consulting & Research for Colliers International and established the company’s real estate consulting division that advised over $2 billion worth of development projects throughout the State of Hawai‘i including regional mall, high rise office, master planned mixed use communities, neighborhood shopping centers, and affordable residential rental projects. Having been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, New York Times, as as well as other regional publications such as the Star Advertiser and Pacific Business News, Michael has been recognized for his detailed analysis of the commercial real estate marketplace and has become a “go-to” source for commercial real estate trend analysis and forecasts for Hawaii’s marketplace. Michael earned his Master of Business Administration from San Francisco State University and his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.


Lester Ng, LEED AP, AHL. Lester is Principal and Director of Design & Sustainability at AHL and has more than 30 years of experience of planning and designing retail, mixed-use, and luxury resort projects throughout the Pacific Rim. With a personal drive to create extraordinary designs, Lester enjoys conceptualizing design ideas, sketching, space planning, and utilizing 3D visualization. He has led the design on several notable retail projects at AHL including the Walgreens Ke'eaumoku Flagship Store, which won a ICSC global design award, Ka Makana Ali'i Regional Shopping Mall in West O'ahu, and the new Niumalu Marketplace in Kailua-Kona that is currently under construction. Twelve years of his career were spent working and traveling throughout Southeast Asia that resulted in projects such as Saigon Centre in Ho Chi Minh City, Fortune Plaza in Beijing, and Kowloon Center in Hong Kong. Lester serves on the Board of Directors for ICSC Hawai'i Chapter and is involved with the Public-Private-Partnership and Next Generation program committees. Lester earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from University of Hawaii at Manoa.
