The Role of Hawaiian Culture in Marketing, Planning, Design & Development

Hawaiian Sense of Place, a phrase coined by the late George Kanahele, is a familiar term to many in the planning, design and development industry in Hawaii. If not, it should be. It is a phrase that has evolved from being a principle and philosophy to a decision-making criterion and a critical design guideline that can can make the difference between a firm being awarded a contract or not.  But what does it really mean? Why have “sense of place” and Hawaiian culture become such integral parts of the planning, design and development experience in Hawaii?

Join us as Ramsay Taum, Cultural Sustainability Planner at PBR Hawaii & Associates shares his insights on:

  • Understanding how, when and where to integrate Hawaiian culture in your practice
  • Why Hawaiian culture matters and how it can impact the bottom line
  • How to apply Hawaiian culture to your marketing processes
  • How paying attention to Hawaiian culture can make the difference between a good project and a great one.

Ramsay Taum is the Cultural Sustainability Planner at PBR Hawaii & Associates, the founder and president of the Life Enhancement Institute of the Pacific.  Ramsay is a sought-after keynote speaker, cultural resource, lecturer, trainer and facilitator.  His work in promoting sustainable place based and Hawaiian cultural stewardship principles and practices is acknowledged locally, nationally and internationally. Mr. Taum is also co-founder and instructor of the new Island Business Concentration MBA program at Chaminade University.
